Changing energy, together.

We design technology that helps households take control of their energy use, cut costs, and reduce carbon — without the complexity.

At Decent Energy, we believe that the clean energy transition shouldn’t just be about generating more renewable power — it is about making sure we use it in the smartest way possible.

We’re a Cambridge-based climate tech company on a mission to decarbonise energy demand. Our software connects and optimises small-scale solar, battery storage, and other low-carbon technologies, turning them into intelligent, decentralised energy networks.

The result? Lower bills, lower carbon, and a cleaner, more resilient energy system.

Why we exist

The energy we use is getting greener, but not fast enough. Oversized renewable generation and grid bottlenecks mean that we sometimes waste clean power, even paying to turn wind turbines off. Meanwhile, households and businesses face high and volatile energy prices. We’re here to fix that — by ensuring more of the energy we consume is low-carbon, local, and cost-effective.

Who do we help?

Our platform integrates with multiple inverter and battery manufacturers, automatically shifting energy use to when it’s cheapest and greenest — without the need for new hardware or on-site installation. We serve:

  • Homeowners who want to cut costs and emissions from their solar and battery systems.
  • Businesses who want to manage energy intelligently across sites.
  • Energy companies and grid operators looking to build Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) and improve grid stability.

Our technology processes hundreds of data points every day — from weather forecasts to grid carbon intensity — to create optimal charging and discharging schedules. It’s seamless, scalable, and proven to save customers up to 25% on their bills while reducing carbon intensity by 15% or more.

Our Values

  • Independence & Transparency We work for our customers, not the energy companies.
  • Innovation & Sustainability We use cutting-edge tech to accelerate the energy transition.
  • Simplicity & Accessibility No site visits, no extra hardware, no hassle.
  • Community & Collaboration We connect people, assets, and ideas to create a cleaner, fairer energy system.

  • Tom Cox headshot

    Tom CoxFounder & Managing Director

Tom founded Decent Energy after installing solar and battery storage at home and realising the system wasn’t optimising for cost or carbon. With 15+ years’ experience leading large-scale software delivery teams, Tom combines deep technical expertise with a clear vision for how decentralised energy can reshape the grid. He drives our strategy, partnerships, and growth.

  • Sally Sattary headshot

Sally SattaryCo-founder & Director of Energy and Weather Operations

Sally’s background spans energy trading, renewable forecasting, and data science. She’s responsible for the operational heart of our platform, ensuring our optimisation engine makes the smartest possible decisions — from predicting solar generation to balancing cost and carbon in real time. Sally turns complex energy data into meaningful savings for our customers.

  • Luke Franklin headshot

Luke FranklinJunior Product Owner & Data Scientist

Luke brings a background in theoretical physics and experience as a software developer and carbon analyst. Formerly part of Manchester University’s Sustainable Engineering Initiative, he combines statistical and computational techniques to tackle complex sustainability challenges. At Decent Energy, he works at the intersection of product ownership and data science, turning raw data into insights that optimise performance, and enhance user experience.
