Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is your analysis all on 13 months?

The maximum period you can retrieve data from a smart meter is 13 months. For this reason, we always analyze 13-month periods, as this also accounts for seasonal variations.

  • What resolution is my meter data in?

Meter data in the UK is recorded in 30-minute intervals. When running Shîfter operationally, we rely on usage data from the inverter, which typically has a higher resolution (1–3 minutes).

  • How much carbon does an average UK house emit in a year?

According to the English Housing Survey 2022 to 2023: Energy Report, the average UK household emits 2.7 tonnes of carbon per year.

  • What is the difference between the different tariffs?

There are three main types of tariffs: fixed, dual, and agile.

    • Fixed tariff – A single set price, making it difficult to save money unless your usage changes significantly (Variable tariffs usually work in a similar way)
    • Time-of-use tariff – Two different rates, allowing us to shift your battery charging to cheaper times.
    • Agile tariff – Prices change every 30 minutes based on market prices.
